What Are Ryan Byrne’s Music / Teaching Qualifications?

Ryan Byrne studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA for a year prior to enrolling at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, NH, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. After graduation, Ryan became a public school music teacher at two elementary schools (Bethlehem Elementary School / Lafayette Regional School) in rural northern NH, where he taught 4th – 6th grade beginning band, 4th – 6th grade chorus, and K-6 general music. He was tenured 3 years later, and won Staff Member of the Year at Bethlehem Elementary during his 6th and final year at this position, when he made the life-changing decision to move to Nashville, TN to further his music career. While gigging and learning his way around the Nashville music scene, Ryan became a substitute teacher for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, subbing mostly for music teachers at 14 of Nashville’s 38 middle schools. Ryan auditioned for several Nashville touring acts, and in 2006 won the post as bassist for then newly-signed indie label country artist Stephen Cochran, with whom he would tour nationally (and even internationally to the middle east as part of an AFE [Armed Forces Entertainment] tour) for the next 10 years. In 2014, Ryan relocated to Knoxville, TN where he began teaching private music lessons at Knoxville Academy of Music, and enjoyed a 5-year stint as the bassist for guitarist / singer-songwriter / producer Steve Rutledge and his band, Liquid Velvet.
